BUILDING STRONG COMMUNITY
Our mission is to work in cooperation with other organizations and with elders, children, youth and adults to build and experience a strong and healthy community where people are liberated to live powerfully in every aspect of our lives.
Many families and individuals in our communities are adversely impacted by multiple systems including: education, housing, healthcare, employment, and criminal justice. The Village is a place to come together to work to change these realities.
Our approach is rooted in an African/African-American experience that welcomes and embraces all people.
The Powerful Living Process
The Village of Hope promotes excellence for all of our people. We believe that every person has purpose and a role in making our community strong and healthy.
Individual Support
Individuals are supported by Powerful Living team members to assess their strengths, resources and challenges and to develop personal plans to move forward. People are supported as they work toward goals to improve finances, housing, education, parenting, health, relationships and spirituality.
Village Gatherings
Village Gatherings are reminiscent of traditional and historic ways that African/African American and other groups and communities imparted information and knowledge, celebrated, grieved and addressed important issues that required collective thought and solutions.
Gatherings bring us together to learn and grow. Topics include: finance management, health, parenting, employment, cultural events, relationships etc. Gatherings are held at many locations including homes, schools, community centers and prison facilities.
The Village holds gatherings several times a month.
Community Organizing and Leadership Development
Village of Hope organizing work helps people understand the systemic issues that impact our families. The work leads to community and institutional transformation while developing leaders among youth, families, and elders.
Documentation and Evaluation
We believe that our communities have our solutions. We are committed to developing community leadership in the areas of development, research, documentation and evaluation of strategies that work for our community.
